Busy busy...

I'm sad that I have been neglecting my blog. My life really is busy. I have been slammed lately at work which is a great thing. Making things happen in my career is definitely good. That takes up a ton of time and then when I'm off of course I am busy being a wife but also I've been trying to learn some new hair and makeup techniques. I want to learn as much as I can about what I do and different ways that I can do it. Your education in the beauty industry is NEVER done. It's funny that I thought you go to cosmetology school to learn about doing hair but really you learn nothing; just enough to pass a test. 90% of what I've learned is from working in a shop and trial and error. My advice to recent graduates: get your license and work in a shop. You don't know anything yet. :p

I am so excited for summer. Hubbs and I have a trip to Florida coming up in June and I literally wish I had a time machine to just skip straight to it. That is going to be so much fun. Also, for anyone wondering since I never posted an update about our pipes, my father in law fixed them and all is well. I'm such a slacker, haha.

Soon I'm going to post another makeup blog so look for that. This is a short entry. I just felt like I needed to update since I haven't in a bit. I'll update again soon. :)

Sigh

Today we had a huge leak in our pipes. Hubbs and I woke up to water in our kitchen floor and upon looking to see where it came from we found more water in the floor of our laundry room. After looking and looking we finally pulled a piece of wall off behind our washing machine and found that some of our water pipes were leaking water and scalding hot steam, g-r-e-a-t. Then, after we thought about it for a while, we realized that those pipes were in the wall between our laundry room and guest bathroom so we looked and also had a huge puddle in there. So the water leaked all inside that wall, and also leaked under the opposite wall from our laundry room to our kitchen.

So now we have all the water in our house cut off and have the water cleaned up, but have to get that mess fixed and hopefully our walls don't mold... Yeah, I'm super happy about this. Super awesome happy happy fun times. Hopefully we can get it fixed tonight so that I will have water to shower before work tomorrow but since it is getting dark that is not looking promising. Oh the joys of having things break in our house. Oh well.

In other news... well, I have no other news today because my life is pretty boring, ha! I think I need a new hobby or a puppy or something (though I don't think my cat would appreciate a puppy so maybe a hamster). Also, I'm am really wanting to get a new makeup pallet from Coastal Scents. They have a metallic one that looks really cool. Sadly, I'm poor. So once again, oh well, I guess.

Sorry about my boring rant.

Sigh.

Update 1/19: Our water is still not fixed. Terrific. Maybe tomorrow.

Natural Eyes Tutorial

I decided to do a tutorial for natural-looking eye makeup first because it was the look requested the most.

To start off, apply your foundation as usual and make sure your entire face is evenly covered. Once you are done with that, you can set your foundation with powder to make it last longer. I always use an eye makeup base before I apply my eye shadow because it stays on longer and makes the colors more vibrant. The one I have been using is by L'Oreal Paris and is called De-crease (you can buy it at CVS). Also, I apply all my eye makeup with brushes and I feel like it gives you more control to blend and also makes it look better. The brushes I use are essence of beauty brushes which can also be purchased at CVS. The sizes I use most often are "eye shadow" and "crease". The eye shadow I am using in this tutorial is Coastal Scents Ultra Shimmer 88 Eye Shadow Palette which I ordered online.

Apply your eye shadow primer and smooth it over your entire lid up to your eyebrows (this step can be skipped if you don't have primer).

For your base lid color, choose a light bronze (similar to the one I am pointing to if you don't have this exact type of eye shadow).

Apply it to your lid below your crease, which I outlined in red.

Once you are done with that, pick a light brown color (like the one above) and apply it in the crease of your eye.

In case you aren't sure where that is, take the crease brush and gently push in above your eye ball like I am doing in the picture. The part that sinks in is your crease.

When applied in your crease your eye shadow should look something like this if you have done it correctly.

Now that you have done that, extend the light brown just a little further up and also bring it down in a sideways v shape to the outer corner of your eye. I outlined the shape it should be in red in the picture above.

Next choose a shimmery translucent white or tan color.

And apply it right under your brow.

And also in the inner corner of your eye. Doing so will make your eyes look brighter.

If you have done everything correctly your eyes should look something like mine. (The white is not that bright it just caught the flash from my camera).

Add your favorite mascara and you are finished. I decided not to add eye liner with this look because i'm going for a more natural feel but of course you can add it also if you'd like.

End result.

Hopefully you enjoyed the tutorial and it was helpful. I'm probably going to do smokey eyes next so be on the lookout for that. :)

Relationships

I have been seeing a lot of people struggling in the relationship department lately so decided to blog about relationships and what I think makes them last and what makes them strong.

Life in the last four years has changed drastically for me. It is crazy to look back and think about how much I have changed, how much my friends have changed, how much life has changed. Four years ago I was 17 years old and about to graduate high school. I met a guy and fell in love, we had ups and we had downs, I grew up and he grew up, and here we are four years later married with our own house and I have a career, a house, bills, and life as an adult. I think back to the person I was when I met my husband and think of the person I am now, and though there are things that are still the same, there is so much that has changed. I was immature (though probably more mature than most people who were my age), I was spoiled, I was completely dependent on my parents for everything, as was he, honestly. I met him and knew he was the one and our lives grew and changed and took off from there.

There are a lot of people who look down on people who are married young. It's pretty funny to me because I have always felt that age does not matter. Yes, statistics say this and statistics say that, but my relationship is not a statistic. Love doesn't have an age limit. I think the biggest thing about relationships with most people is they don't expect to have rough times. I watch people all the time who are in a relationship or married and they hit a bump and that is it, that is the end and they are not willing to work for their love. Any human relationship is going to hit rocky times and the whole point of being married is that you are there with someone for better or for worse. My husband and I know this and that is why our relationship will last. The point is to learn how to grow together. The point is to help each other through rough times. I feel like I shouldn't have to explain that to people.

When we met, I never expected the connection we would have or that we would be so compatible. We like all the same things. We we raised really similar. Our personalities are really similar. He is my best friend. My point is, I think that is something that is very important in a marriage. I think you need someone who is your friend because even in times when there is no romance, there is friendship and that keeps a relationship strong. A mistake a lot of people make is trying to be with someone based on superficial things. Yes, human nature is vain and shallow and I do believe that to be with someone you have to find them attractive but at the same time you can't base your whole relationship off of that. It needs to be someone who can be your friend, who makes you laugh, who you have fun with. Looks and lust can only take you so far and that is why so many girls have boyfriend after boyfriend and are always whining, "Why don't my relationships turn into something long term?", "Why can't I find someone?". It's because there is nothing deep there. Make a real connection to someone. Make friends with someone. Stop bouncing from guy to guy and 'loving' every single one. Find one person who is your best friend and work through your issues. If it's really love, stick with them.

It worked for me.

Introducing...

I have decided to start blogging. Why? I don't know. Maybe I feel like I have something to say. Maybe I feel like sharing my brain with the world. Who knows? I don't.

I should probably start off by introducing myself even though I'm pretty sure the only people who will read this are people who already know me. I am Kati. I live in a small town. I am a newlywed. My wedding was October 10th, 2010. Everyone's next question is always about children so I will go ahead and say no, we do not have any and no, we are not in any hurry to have them. My cat is my kid for now.

I am a cosmetologist. That means I went to school, passed state tests and got my license to make people prettier. I do hair and I do makeup which I'm sure will be things that I post about a lot so if you aren't interested in such things then maybe reading my blog is not going to be very interesting to you or, maybe it will. Once again, I don't know. It's hard to think of things to say for this post. I don't know how to e-introduce myself but I guess that is going to have to do.

Look for a real first post soon! :)
